How DIY or using a professional design serves you better in the long term.
In the age of artificial intelligence, it's tempting to turn to AI tools for quick and easy solutions, including logo design. AI-generated logos may seem like an affordable and time-saving option, but they come with a host of issues that can compromise the quality, usability, and uniqueness of your brand identity. If you’re serious about building a strong, professional brand, here’s why AI-generated logos might not be the best choice.
1. Lack of Vector Format
One of the biggest issues with AI-generated logos is that they are often created as raster images (such as PNG or JPEG) rather than vector files (such as SVG or EPS). Raster images are resolution-dependent, meaning they become pixelated when resized.
In contrast, vector logos are scalable, ensuring crisp and professional visuals across all formats, from business cards to billboards. Converting a raster AI-generated logo into a vector format can be a tedious and often imperfect process.
2. Poor Quality and Lack of Precision
AI tools struggle with creating precise, high-quality logos that meet professional design standards. You may notice:
Inconsistent line thickness
Uneven shapes
Overly generic icons
Strange artefacts in the design
A logo is a long-term investment, and these imperfections can make your brand look unprofessional and cheap. Hiring a professional designer ensures a clean, polished design that aligns with your business identity.
3. Limited Control Over Style, Colours, and Elements
While AI tools allow you to input preferences, the level of control is minimal. You might get a logo that’s close to your vision, but tweaking small details—such as adjusting a colour shade, fine-tuning typography, or modifying spacing—can be difficult or impossible. Branding is all about consistency, and not having full creative control over your logo can limit your ability to build a cohesive visual identity.
4. Background Issues and Fuzzy Edges
Many AI-generated logos include backgrounds, even when you request a transparent file. Removing these backgrounds often results in:
A jagged or fuzzy outline
Unwanted artefacts around the edges
Loss of fine details
A clean, properly formatted logo should have a smooth, well-defined edge, whether it’s placed on a white background, a website header, or printed merchandise. AI tools frequently fail to deliver this level of polish.
5. Generic and Overused Designs
AI-generated logos rely on pre-existing design elements and patterns, meaning your logo could be very similar—or even identical—to someone else’s. Branding is about standing out, not blending in. A unique, custom-designed logo ensures originality and prevents potential copyright or trademark conflicts down the line.
6. Limited Adaptability for Branding Materials
A well-designed logo should be versatile enough to work across different mediums, from social media profiles to product packaging. AI-generated logos often lack the necessary adaptability for multiple applications. You may find that:
It doesn’t translate well to monochrome versions.
It’s difficult to place over various backgrounds.
It doesn’t work well in different orientations (horizontal vs. vertical).
A professional designer ensures that your logo is flexible and adaptable, saving you headaches down the road.
Alternative: Create Your Own Logo Using Design Software or Typography
If you want more control over your logo but don’t want to hire a designer, consider using design software like Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, or even Canva.
Another elegant approach is using a beautifully crafted font as your logo, which can create a minimalist yet strong brand identity. While Canva is easy to use it isn’t as powerful as Illustrator. A well-made logo in Canva can be converted into a vector format using Illustrator, ensuring scalability and professional quality.
These tools give you more flexibility over colours, typography, and design elements, allowing you to craft a logo that truly represents your brand. A well-chosen font, paired with thoughtful spacing and colour choices, can serve as a powerful and memorable logo on its own.
This draft logo was presented to me by Yuka from Amrita Massage. It was a beautiful and thoughtful design that perfectly represented her business. I helped her turn it into a vector for use on her website, collateral, etc.

Conclusion:
I often help clients refine their existing logos free of charge and create them in a vector format, but I do not offer this as a standalone service or design logos from scratch. This ensures they have a functional, scalable logo that can be used across various applications without losing quality. A well-designed logo can enhance brand identity and create a lasting impression.
While AI-generated logos may seem like a quick and cheap solution, they come with serious limitations that can negatively impact your brand. If you want a high-quality, professional, and unique logo, investing in a skilled designer or creating your own using proper design software is the best choice. Your logo is a critical part of your business identity, don’t cut corners on something that represents you to the world.
